Drop in/self study session

Hi everyone,
A reminder that if you want to get involved we've moved over to a less formal style to finish off the turbine and keep working on small jobs around the hydro.
If you'd like to pop in and lend a hand or use our computers or Studio 1 to research, please do!

Saturday 10th June at 1pm

We will be hiking from The Vale over to Dovestone reservoir to visit Saddleworth Community Hydro on their open day for Great Big Green Week. It'll take between 1.5-2 hours.

Sarah, our navigator will lead us with sites of interest and get us all there in one piece.

If you'd rather meet there then we should get there between 2.45 and 3pm. Or you can visit the Hydro yourself at another time that day.

here's their website
saddleworth community hydro
Please think of any questions you might want to ask them before the day.

We'll be walking back off our own steam and anyone that wishes to head to a pub or get the bus back can. If anyone would rather catch the bus, the 350 runs between Mossley, Micklehurst also taking in Greenfield. The train stops at Mossley and Greenfield and it's 30 minute+ walk to Dovestone.

3rd june 1pm

we will be meeting at the vale on saturday 3rd june 1pm

At this week's session we'll be working with visual and graphic/artistic ways of communicating the ideas around our project. This could help to engage others in the project and we might produce some iconic signs to adorn the walls of schools and offices to promote ideas around carbon literacy.

Also we'll be assembling teams to take on the tasks of the making and other work around the building of the turbine generator, clearing and prepping the waterway etc.

If you haven't managed to make a session yet- don't worry, you can come along any time, or contribute online with any knowledge sharing to the blog.

The following session on the 10th June we'll be walking to Dovestone reservoir from The Vale to visit the Saddleworth Hydro and so setting off at 12 rather than 1pm.

27th May

We're looking forward to seeing everyone on the 27th May.

Let's clean the stream up! We'll remove rubbish, leaf litter and branches slowing the rivers flow down.

Once that's done we can test the stream's flow speed to estimate how much power we can harness with a hydrogenerator in place.

Bring wellies and thick gardening gloves if you're up for getting in and around the stream clear up. We'll provide some equipment and protective gear too.

Any questions Amelia@globalgrooves.org 01457 238 089
